Front Studio Architects transformed a dated three-bedroom penthouse into a welcoming home for a family of four. The firm modified the proportions of the open Kitchen and Living/Dining area and created a children's wing on the south end of the apartment with a Master Suite in the northwestern corner. The renovation judiciously balances existing finishes with an insertion of new materials, millwork and furnishings. A rainbow bookcase fills the entire wall of the Living Room and is the central focus point for the family. Skylights scattered throughout the space bring much desired natural light to the rooms.
"Like me, the apartment has moist shadows and lights, nothing here is abrupt; one room precedes and promises the next. From my dining room I could see the mixtures of shadows that were a prelude to the living room."
